London Design Festival brings Australian lighting artist and designer Flynn Talbot’s “Reflection Room” - an immersive coloured light experience – to the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Talbot’s signature blue and orange lighting highlights the dramatic 35m length and ceiling structure of Prince Consort Gallery, where the installation is housed. Talbot conceived the idea standing in the gallery. He says, “I wanted to add my story on top of the beautiful architecture but not to take it over. With all of my work, I want to create new experiences using light that build a connection between people and place.”Custom-made 56 large black stretch membrane Barrisol panels expand the width of the space, creating a fragmented view of shifting colors, reflections and light. With the play of Tryka LED profiles emitting vivid orange and blue hues, the space is transformed into a vibrant and dramatic chapel of colored light made with a futuristic textile. The installation is a tribute to the history of the room itself that previously displayed over 30,000 textile samples.Victoria and Albert Museum is the official hub for the London Design Festival, featuring specially commissioned installations and works by leading international contemporary designers. The installation is on view through September 24, 2017 at Victoria and Albert Museum, Cromwell Rd, Knightsbridge, London SW7 2RL, UK.For details, visit: http://www.londondesignfestival.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the installation.
