La Triennale di Milano presents “There is a Planet,” an exhibition that marks the centenary of the birth of Ettore Sottsass, curated by Barbara Radice.“There is a Planet” is a monographic exhibition devoted to Ettore Sottsass in the spaces of the Galleria dell’Architettura. The exhibition will be accompanied by a book and a catalogue. The title of the exhibition, and of the book, “There is a Planet,” refers to a project that Sottsass started in the 1990s for the German publisher Wasmuth, but never completed. The project for the book, published by Electa, was to form five groups of photographs taken by Sottsass on his travels around the world, each with its own title and essay. The main body of the exhibition, extending across nine rooms, revolves around nine themes, based on an analysis of the archive volumes of Sottsass’ writings. Each theme/room and group of works is accompanied by brief quotations from his writings that closely follow the journey of the artist’s endeavors and of his eclectic activities including architecture, drawing, design, photography, painting, objects, furniture, sculptures, glassware, ceramics, publishing, and writings. The works do not reflect precise periods of time but rather refer to the moods and trends that crowd together and fade into one another, linking up to those before and after. The exhibition is on view through March 11, 2018 at La Triennale di Milano, Viale Emilio Alemagna, 6, 20121 Milano MI, Italy, noted Domus.
