“Do Things” an exhibition of works by architectural practice Something Fantastic will run through October 29, 2017, at BNKR, Munich. The exhibition examines Something Fantastic’s approach to practice in shaping the future with the existing and found. For their field research, they step beyond the sphere of classical architecture to create heterogeneous spaces. The short manifesto by Something Fantastic is also a reference to Jorge Luis Borges’ fictitious Chinese encyclopedia. On display are photo prints, photo wallpapers, digital pictures, and objects collected or turned into works by the group and also their new project Replica Books and a temporary Carport Bar that is an example of how Something Fantastic can change the perception of space through a small intervention. The exhibition is part of the 15-month long program ‘Stop making sense, it’s as good as it gets.’Something Fantastic is a young architectural practice committed to smart, touching, simple architecture. Its works include publications (Something Fantastic, Building Brazil, e. a.) teaching (ETH Zurich, e. a.) and design for private and institutional clients. The belief that architecture is affected by everything and vice versa does affect everything is the basis of their claim that working as architects involves a general interest and involvement in the world. As urban designers, writers, idealists, anthropologists, futurists, service providers, and party organizers they practice a new form of autonomy, which they define as ‘Something Fantastic,’ to shape the future within the complex present. What counts is the option to re-write the narrative whenever they feel it’s necessary. The exhibition is on view at BNKR, Ungererstraße 158 / 80805 München, Germany. For details, visit: www.bnkr.spaceClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition. Read more
