Judge Richard Dinkins of the Tennessee Court of Appeals has become one of three stars in a viral video that got passed around hundreds of thousands of times over the weekend. The heartwarming video shows Judge Dinkins bouncing Juliana Lamar’s 1-year-old son Beckham on his hip as he swore Lamar into the state bar. Lamar had studied and graduated from Belmont University College of Law, while carrying and then having Beckham. Lamar told BuzzFeed News that «On the day of my swearing in, right before we began, Judge said he wanted Beckham to take part in the moment.” Lamar had Beckham while still attending law school last year, returning to classes the following week according to one of her law school colleagues. Not an ideal situation for anyone, and Lamar said put a “horrible” amount of pressure on her. She explained that while she was able to get through law school with the help of her husband, she hoped that future mothers-to-be might have more progressive policies afforded them as far as the strict attendance policy. »I understand having a child during law school is often a choice, however, as young female professionals there is not a perfect time for us to have children." Judge Dinkins is a very well-regarded Tennessee fixture, as WVLT reports he was “recently honored with the Nelson C. Andrews Distinguished Service Award at the Nashville Public Education Foundation's 15th annual Public Schools Hall of Fame event,” for his advocacy of civil rights in public education. When watching the video note that little Beckham has his right hand raised the whole time his mother is being sworn in. Read more
