Louis Vuitton recently launched its Men's Fall-Winter 2019 collection, which it describes as Savoir-Faire.From sketches on paper to finished product on the runway, Louis Vuitton, known for its long history of exceptional savoir-faire, shares a peek behind-the-scenes at the Men’s Atelier leading up to the recent Fall-Winter 2019 Show by Artistic Director Virgil Abloh. As described on the brand’s website, “Although Michael Jackson was the show's foremost inspiration, Virgil Abloh's follow-up to his Spring-Summer rainbow-colored debut wove in recurring themes and a multitude of influences. Set to an original score composed by Dev Hynes, the looks passed in a meandering choreography against the backdrop of a New York City streetscape.”The Men's Fall-Winter 2019 Fashion Show, held at the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris, was an occasion for Artistic Director Virgil Abloh to present his second runway collection to friends and guests, who included Timothee Chalamet, Naomi Campbell, Kris Wu, Joel Edgerton, Kid Cudi, Takanori Iwata, Skepta, Offset, Gunna, JJ Lin, and J Balvin. The show was Abloh’s follow-up to his Louis Vuitton debut last June. Expanding on the vocabulary established in the Spring-Summer 2019 Collection, Abloh elaborated on his vision of universality and inclusivity as it is rooted in the Maison’s travel DNA, according to the website.Describing the show, the website further reports, “This season, the Artistic Director turned to Michael Jackson, whose extraordinary path from humble beginnings to international stardom provided inspiration from concept to set to silhouettes. For Abloh, Michael Jackson became the only recorded study of a man’s sense of dress from boyhood to adulthood to play out on a globally observed stage. The leitmotif of boyhood has been employed by Virgil Abloh to illustrate the time in a man’s lifespan during which he discovers his future wardrobe staples. For this latest collection, the progression of looks was a loose, non-linear, zip-zagging chronology inspired by elements of Michael Jackson’s sartorial signatures. Through military dress, sequinned finishes, sleek loafers, among other elements, the spirit of Michael Jackson reverberated from the runway.’’Echoing the theatrical production value of Michael Jackson's short films, Virgil Abloh sought to elevate the fashion show’s concept to a level evocative of Broadway for his second Louis Vuitton show. “The Men's Fall-Winter 2019 set imagines a New York cityscape, its dwellers meandering through the streets, their steps illuminating the sidewalk as a nod to the King of Pop's iconic music video,” describes the website.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the collection https://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
