The event is part the Sydney Opera House’s 45 year celebrations, supported by Michael and Manuela Darling.One of the world’s best known architects, Jorn Utzon has left behind a legacy that continues to influence architects and designers across the globe. American architect Frank Gehry has said, “Utzon made a building well ahead of its time; he persevered through extraordinarily malicious publicity and negative criticism to build a building that changed the image of an entire country.”The talk will encompass a range of topics like “How is Utzon regarded in his own country? How is his legacy being preserved, or challenged? Is there a discernible “Utzon style”? Sydney Opera House says that this is a must-attend event for everyone who loves architecture and design. It’s a one-of- its- kind unique opportunity where one gets to hear from some of Denmark’s most interesting architects, gathered at Sydney’s Opera House, the iconic building designed by Utzon himself. This creation of his also became a hallmark of his international reputation.The panelists include Mette Tony and Mads Bjorn Hansen, founders of Praksis Architects. Their working style is a combination of knowledge about classical architecture and crafts. They possess a far-reaching and artistically gifted idiom along with a beautiful sense of materiality. It is through this practice that they visualize and shape their own genuine, architectural style.Co-founders of Johansen Skovsted Arkitekter, Soren Johansen and Sebastian Skovsted develop projects beginning from the first rough sketch to the completed construction. Their practice is closely associated with building heritage as also the protected natural environments. They keenly focus on the physical contexts which need to be responded delicately; both in architecture and landscape. They endeavor to bridge the gap between materials and contemporary building processes, while conforming to the basic values of architecture through a fusion of ideas, techniques and manufacturing methods.Prof Gerard Reinmuth is the director of TERROIR, an Australian architectural practice firm with offices in Sydney, Hobart and Copenhagen. Reinmuth is an academic, architect and designer. He is also the Principal in charge of the Sydney and Copenhagen offices and has a major role in the designing of all the major projects the Australian and Danish offices undertake.
