More congressional delay means another 2,200 DACA recipients will become vulnerable to deportation

Senate Democrats appear poised to vote for a continuing resolution bill that will reopen the government through February 8 but fails to address protections for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients. All Senate Democrats have is yet another false promise from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to continue some sort of immigration talks, with no assurances House Speaker Paul Ryan will do the same. The fact is that over 16,000 DACA recipients have already lost their work permits and protections from deportation, and every day that the Republican-led Congress refuses to act on permanent legislation, another 122 fall out of status. McConnell can keep repeating this lie that Congress has until March to act all he likes, but it will keep staying a lie: xNOTE: 122 Dreamers will CONTINUE to lose #DACA protections PER DAY after the Government reopens. Some will lose their jobs. Others won’t be able to drive. Many will become targets for ICE.#shutdown #DreamActNow— Juan Escalante (@JuanSaaa) January 22, 2018 Further delay until February 8 means another 2,200 DACA recipients will fall out of status and risk being torn from the only country they’ve ever known as home. Now to put the lives of thousands of young immigrants, like Juan, in the hands of a man as bankrupt as Mitch McConnell is a horrific thought.

Carved and Embroidered Leaves by Hillary Fayle

Artist Hillary Fayle (previously here and here) slices and stitches patterns into found leaves, producing elegant designs that strike a delicate balance between natural specimens and the human hand. The works range from minimal tweaks to individual leaves to more involved patterns that link several in one embroidery. Fayle hopes each piece is an encouragement to look at nature a little closer and consider the potential for harmony in objects often overlooked. More

Keenum not committed to re-signing with Vikings in 2018

Case Keenum is coming off a career year with the Minnesota Vikings, and it’s clear he’s looking forward to taking advantage of that in free agency this upcoming March. On Monday, following a very disappointing end in the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Keenum made it clear he’s not going to make re-signing with the Vikings a top priority. This is a smart approach. While it’s true that his performance in the NFC Championship might have somewhat diminished Keenum’s value on the open market, there’s no doubt he’s still going to be one of the better options out there for quarterback-needy teams in free agency. And we know that teams aren’t opposed to spending mad cash on guys who aren’t exactly proven winners (cough, Mike Glennon, cough). That said, one thing that could potentially happen that would put this outside Keenum’s control is that there’s always the chance Minnesota slaps the franchise tag on him. It’s going to be fascinating to see what the Vikings do. They have all three quarterbac

Terrell Owens defends Dak Prescott, rips Jason Garrett

If Terrell Owens keeps hearing Dallas Cowboys fans criticize Dak Prescott on social media, we may end up getting a repeat of his infamous teary-eyed “that’s my quarterback” speech.Owens answered some questions for fans on Twitter over the weekend, and it wasn’t long before the Q&A turned into a chance for him to vent about how his run with the Cowboys ended. When one follower said Prescott is the real problem in Dallas and has turned people against Dez Bryant, Owens was quick to defend the young quarterback while bashing Jason Garrett. As he has said numerous times in the past, Owens also went back to how he believes Garrett and Tony Romo ran him out of Dallas. T.O.’s rant about Prescott and the Cowboys came not long after he unloaded on Donovan McNabb and some of his other former coaches. Even though he’s now 44 and has not played in the NFL since 2010, it’s clear some of these wounds will never heal for Owens.
