Ashanti region records 25% drop in maternal mortality in first half of 2026
The Ashanti Region has recorded a 25% drop in institutional maternal mortality in the first half of 2026, with the rate falling from 199.5 to 148.7 deaths per 100,000 live births. The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate attributed the improvement to targeted clinical interventions and the expansion of care at peripheral health facilities. Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Fred Adomako-Boateng, announced the figures during the region’s 2026 mid-year health performance review.
