She held puppies in captivity - now, she faces jail.Ng Siew Teng has become the first person in Singapore to be jailed for keeping animals in captivity for sale at unlicensed premises, said NParks in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 15).Ng, 28, and her husband Callum Lim, 34, were arrested on Dec 27, 2023 for being involved in a scheme to illegally import puppies from Malaysia to sell in Singapore.In Dec 27, officers from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) at Woodlands Checkpoint conducted a random inspection and stopped a Singapore-registered vehicle driven by their friend Bryan Peh.Peh, 23, was found with five two-month-old Pomeranian puppies hidden in the boot of his vehicle.Of the five, two were found inside a pet carrier within a plastic storage, which also held three other puppies.'Unnecessary suffering'This case was then referred to NParks, which then investigated the matter and found that Peh had been supported by Ng and Lim to smuggle puppies into Singapore for sale.Ng and Lim would then keep the puppies in their home, selling them via Instagram.
