Claims that Africa is spared natural disasters because its leaders are “natural disasters” ignore the continent’s long history of devastating floods, cyclones, droughts, earthquakes and landslides. From Libya and Sierra Leone to KwaZulu-Natal, Morocco and the Horn of Africa, natural disasters have killed thousands and caused billions in damage.
