Haze update for Sept 13: Air quality expected to remain in moderate to low unhealthy range
Air quality in Singapore remained in the moderate range across all five regions on Sunday (Sept 13).However, 1-hour PM2.5 readings in the central region crept back into the elevated range at about 5pm, continuing into 6pm with a reading of 60. Readings of between 56 to 150 denote the elevated range.In its daily update on Sunday evening, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said the Republic's 24-hour PSI forecast is again expected to be in the moderate to low unhealthy range.Explaining this, NEA stated that moderate to dense smoke plumes continue to be observed from fires in Kalimantan and southern Sumatra.It has also observed smoke plumes from fires in Kalimantan drifting towards Singapore.The agency added that while showers are forecast over northern Sumatra and north-western Borneo in the coming days, dry conditions are forecast over Kalimantan and southern Sumatra.This, coupled with the prevailing southerly or south-easterly winds, means there remains a risk of transboundary smoke haze affecting Singapore, should fires in Indonesia persist.
