Showers on Friday (Sept 11) afternoon and early Saturday morning have brought respite from both the haze and heat.As of 6pm on Sept 12, the 24-hour Pollutant Standard Index (PSI) readings across all five regions in Singapore are in the moderate range.Meanwhile, 1-hour PM2.5 readings are also in the normal range. However, the country's 24-hour PSI forecast is still expected to be in the moderate to low unhealthy range.Explaining this in its daily haze situation update on Saturday evening, NEA pointed out that moderate to dense smoke plumes continue to be observed from fires in southern Sumatra and Kalimantan. It noted that showers are expected over northern Sumatra over the coming days, but dry conditions are forecast over central Sumatra and persist over Kalimantan and southern Sumatra. This, coupled with the prevailing southerly or south-easterly winds, means there remains a risk of transboundary smoke haze affecting Singapore, should fires in Indonesia persist.
