Malaysian teen allegedly found with more than 1,200 Kpods at Tuas Checkpoint charged with trafficking

A 17-year-old was charged on Sept 4 for allegedly trafficking 1,264 etomidate vaporiser pods into Singapore via Tuas Checkpoint.The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) said on Thursday (Sept 10) that the teen was caught during an enhanced check by Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers at Tuas Checkpoint on Sept 3. There, ICA search and examination officers uncovered 14 parcels of vaporiser pods in his motorcycle and alerted the authority.HSA officers who took over the investigation found that the parcels contained 1,264 vaporiser pods, with subsequent laboratory testing confirming that they contained etomidate.They were allegedly intended for supply.While HSA did not identify the nationality of the teen since he is a minor, AsiaOne notes that the legal age to ride a motorcycle in Singapore is 18, while in Malaysia the minimum age is 16.Following his arrest on Sept 3, he was charged the next day and remanded for a week to assist with further investigations.His case was mentioned on Sept 9, and the next hearing will be on Oct 7.
