Prague’s Petřín Funicular to Return to Service on September 22
<p>Prague’s Petřín funicular will resume passenger service on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, following a two-year reconstruction of the railway and its infrastructure, the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) has announced. Service will begin at 7 a.m., with the new fourth-generation cars departing from both Újezd and Petřín stations. Trains will then run according to the regular timetable, with departures every 10 minutes until 10:15 p.m. The reopening comes almost exactly two years after the previous funicular was taken out of service. The third-generation cars made their final journey on September 13, 2024, after prolonged heavy rainfall destabilized and eroded sections of the hillside. New cars increase capacity The two new cars were designed by Czech designer Anna Marešová and built by Swiss manufacturer CWA Constructions SA. The vehicles cost a combined CZK 137.7 million and were delivered to Prague in April. Each car can carry up to 120 passengers, compared with a capacity of 100 on the previous vehicles. The design also introduces glass roofs, giving passengers a clearer view of Petřín Hill during the journey.
