Self-radicalisation remains key terrorism threat in Singapore; ISIS propaganda still prevalent in cases: ISD
Self-radicalisation continues to be the main domestic terrorism threat in Singapore, the Internal Security Department (ISD) said.In its annual Singapore Terrorism Threat Assessment Report published on Thursday (Sept 10), it said seven out of eight Singaporeans dealt with under the Internal Security Act (ISA) between July 2025 and 2026 were self-radicalised.The number of youth ISA cases in the past five years has risen from four cases between 2017 and 2021, to 15 cases from 2022 to 2026.Six such cases were identified within the past year alone — three 14-year-olds, a 15 year old, and two 19-year-olds."Despite their young ages, radicalised youths can pose a serious security threat. Of the 23 youth ISA cases since 2015, 12 had plans to conduct attacks in Singapore," the agency said. Most self-radicalised individuals subscribed to Islamist extremist ideologies, ISD flagged.This includes Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) propaganda as well as extremist narratives surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.ISD said that ISIS's terrorist propaganda remains easily accessible online and is a key radicalising influence here.
