The fall of Lance Armstrong was intertwined with the similarly disgraced descent of his one-time American Postal teammate Floyd Landis. Landis, having come from a unique rural and religious background, rose through the ranks to take the coveted Tour de France title for himself just one year after Armstrong stood adorned in the famous yellow jersey as a record-breaker en route to retirement and the continued adulation of millions who bought into his story of triumph over tragedy.In time, both men would be exposed as doping cheats after Landis confessed to what many had suspected, and indeed accused of, for years – creating the domino effect that would ultimately bring Armstrong down. Twenty years on from his tainted victory in 2006, Landis still has a lot to say, and the Sunday Independent’s Paul Kimmage was on hand to hear it.
