Resident makes police report over 'noisy' Yishun getai; organiser says event has been held for 23 years without complaints

A getai performance in Yishun was disrupted by about 80 minutes, when police were called to the venue over a reported noise complaint on Friday (Sep 4) night.Organised by the Nee Soon South Neighbourhood 8 Zhong Yuan Association, the event was held at Khatib multipurpose centre as part of the Hungry Ghost Festival, according to Shin Min Daily News.Hosted by veteran performers Xian Hong and Hao Hao, also known as the "Prince of a Thousand Faces", the show began at 7pm with about 80 banquet tables set up for guests. Other performers included Chen Kaixuan, Zi Yao, Wei Bin and several others. Among those attending the festival was Yishun GRC MP Lee Wai Ying, who interacted with residents and guests at the event. But, at about 8.20pm, police arrived at the venue after the resident reportedly complained about the noise from the stage performance.The event's chairman, Koh Fook Keong (transliterated), said the complaint came as a surprise, noting that the annual event has been held for 23 years without a similar incident.
