Public transport fare hike: Value of vouchers raised to $80; 60,000 more households eligible
Following this year's hike in public transport fares, the Government will raise the value of Public Transport Vouchers (PTV) to $80 per household, from the current $60.This will help lower-income families alleviate the impact of the price increase, said the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the People's Association in a joint statement on Tuesday (Sept 29).About 60,000 more households will also qualify for the PTV as the income eligibility ceiling will be raised from $1,800 per capita to $2,100.In all, four in 10 households will now benefit from the vouchers.The additional subsidy will cost the Government $15 million, said MOT in a separate statement.The PTV will be automatically issued to households already registered under the scheme.Notification letters will be sent to these families via post or SMS from end-December.Meanwhile, new applications for the PTV will begin in early 2027.Applications can be done online or in person at Community Centres and Clubs, and more details will be announced at a later date.
