'She brought warmth, vitality': PM Wong sends condolences after passing of ex-Malaysian PM Mahathir's wife Siti Hasmah
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Monday (Sept 28) conveyed Singapore's condolences to Malaysia's former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad after the passing of his wife Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.The centenarian, who celebrated her 100th birthday on July 12, died at the National Heart Institute at about 9.20am on Monday.In a letter to the former prime minister, PM Wong noted that Dr Siti Hasmah had led an extraordinary life."A pioneer in her field, she made important contributions to healthcare, education and other social causes in Malaysia."He added that her contributions have touched the lives of generations of Malaysians, and will continue to inspire many to serve their communities and work for positive change.PM Wong also noted that Dr Mahathir and Dr Siti Hasmah first met in Singapore as medical students.He said that Singapore was always happy to welcome her back, including when they returned to the former grounds of the then-King Edward VII College of Medicine in 2018.
