Haze update Sept 28: Air quality deteriorates, 24-hour PSI forecast to reach mid-unhealthy range
Air quality in Singapore deteriorated through Monday (Sept 28) afternoon, with the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) edging closer to the Unhealthy range in parts of the island, particularly in the south and central regions.At 6pm, the 24-hour PSI ranged from 68 to 94, remaining in the Moderate range, with the highest reading of 94 recorded in southern Singapore.Meanwhile, the one-hour PM2.5 readings were in the Elevated band across all five regions.Central Singapore recorded the highest concentration reading of 138, with southern (115) and western (106) Singapore recording the next highest numbers.In its daily haze situation update on Monday evening, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said the country's 24-hour PSI is forecast to be in the high-Moderate to mid-Unhealthy range.Explaining this, the agency noted that moderate to dense smoke haze from fires in southern Sumatra and Kalimantan had drifted to Singapore.With prevailing winds expected to blow from the east or southeast, there remains a risk of smoke haze continuing to affect Singapore, NEA added.
