Kusu pilgrimage begins on Oct 10, visitors encouraged to visit on weekdays: SLA
The annual Kusu pilgrimage will take place from Oct 10 to Nov 8, the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) said in an advisory on Friday (Sept 25).The authority also encouraged visitors to visit Kusu Island on weekdays to avoid weekend crowds.Visitors are advised to wear comfortable attire and shoes, and should note that overnight stays and bringing pets to Kusu Island are not permitted, SLA added.Home to the popular Da Bo Gong (Great Earth God) Temple and the keramat built to commemorate the 19th century pious man Syed Abdul Rahman, his mother Nenek Ghalib and sister Puteri Fatimah, devotees visit Kusu Island every year during the ninth lunar month.During the pilgrimage season, the set of stairs leading up to and down from the keramat will be open.Siong Leng Musical Association, a traditional arts organisation that promotes southern Chinese music, will hold its annual heritage performance from 5pm to 10pm at the temple on Nov 7.Visitors who wish to visit the island during the pilgrimage season are required to purchase a ferry ticket from Singapore Island Cruise & Ferry Services — the appointed ferry operator.
