Alan Kyerematen warns Ghana’s youthful population could become economic burden without jobs
Ghana could turn its growing youthful population into an economic burden if it fails to generate enough productive jobs, former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has warned. Mr Kyerematen said Ghana’s young population presents a major opportunity for economic transformation, but that opportunity can only be realised if the economy is able to absorb the growing number of young people entering the workforce. “We have a young, growing population, which can be considered as a potential dividend. It is a definite advantage when you consider our future and consumer patterns. But it is only a dividend if the economy creates enough formal productive jobs,” he said.
