BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana’s Office of Tourism has scheduled five more meetings around the state to help identify locations for a civil rights trail to share Louisiana’s role in the movement.
Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser says it’s important to learn about stories, people and locations that highlight the times.
The new meetings begin July 30 at the West Baton Rouge Museum in Port Allen. Others will be in Bogalusa, Franklin, Grambling and Vacherie.
The office held meetings in April and May in nine locations including New Orleans, Lafayette, Monroe and Shreveport.
Nungesser says more will be scheduled.
Some sites in New Orleans and Baton Rouge already are part of the U.S. Civil Rights Trail in 15 states and Washington, D.C.
Mississippi began its Freedom Trail in 2011. It now has 25 sites.
