RENO, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada Highway Patrol is cracking down on drivers who fail to move over to the far lane when passing roadside emergency response vehicles.
The patrol says it plans increased enforcement of the “Move Over” law statewide, beginning with a special emphasis in Reno this weekend.
The 2003 law requires drivers to slow and, when possible, change lanes away from vehicles with flashing emergency lights.
Last summer, state transportation vehicles with flashing amber or non-flashing blue lights were added to the list of those covered by the law, which already included law enforcement, firetrucks, ambulances and tow trucks.
Trooper Matt McLaughlin says while the law is more than 15 years old, the patrol continues to regularly see motorists who fail to make a reasonable effort to move over.
