HARKERS ISLAND, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in North Carolina are trying to identify human remains that were discovered on a barrier island Sunday afternoon, according to officials.
Cape Lookout National Seashore rangers found the remains around 3:30 p.m. on Shackleford Banks, news outlets quoted the seashore’s superintendent as saying.
The remains were turned over to the medical examiner’s office, the National Park Service said in a statement Sunday.
The agency did not comment further.
