UPDATE: The poll is now closed! The official results:
There’s no way for me to shut off voting in the poll below, so people can keep tallying votes if they want, but they won’t be counted for purposes of the official results. 52,000 votes! And if you’re worried about Bernie’s supporters spamming the poll, there’s not much to worry about. The results barely budged from after the first hour of voting.
I’ll have a full analysis of the results tomorrow morning.
So I blew it last week, forgot to turn on a feature that makes it harder to vote multiple times, and as a result, a certain candidate’s very-motivated supporters had some fun at the expense of our straw poll. That’s on me. So, um, let’s forget that happened and march onward!
A change this week—the poll will officially run for six hours, from 2-8 PM ET. Since it’s still early in the cycle, we can experiment with various ways to gather votes. Currently, the website (DailyKos.com) vote (presumably the most informed and engaged activists) is the first to come in, and it skews heavily toward Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren. When our email list is asked to engage, both Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders get a boost. Then the word goes out to the Bernie-sphere, and at that point it’s all Bernie. The dynamics are quite fascinating, actually, and I wish we had the tools and time to dig into them more.
Anyway, time to vote! I will update this post at 8 PM ET with the official tally, and will do a wrap-up post tomorrow with the results and trends.
