HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii officials have closed two sections of a state park due to a high-surf warning.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports that the Keawaula and Mokuleia sections of Kaena Point State Park will be closed to the public Sunday.
The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources says the closure is a result of a large surf swell expected to cause flooding along the state’s northern and western shores.
The newspaper reports that surf is expected to reach up to 35 to 50 feet (about 11 to 15 meters) along parts of the Big Island, Kauai, Maui, Molokai, Niihau, and Oahu.
Officials say the high-surf warning will remain in effect statewide until 6 p.m. Monday.
