Yeah, he's doing it again. The theoretical sitting president, the guy in charge of our military and our nuclear weapons, is freaking out about comedy skits on Twitter again.
Donald Trump has had a difficult few months. His party was decimated in the midterm elections. His top campaign and business aides keep getting indicted for things they did during his own election. A gaggle of the loudest voices on the Fox News network convinced him he needed to shut down the federal government in order to demonstrate "strength"; when that effort predictably collapsed he mounted a one-man play on the White House lawn declaring that his desires were now a national emergency because China, and duct tape, and a blur of other incoherent phrases.
So now he's going to pout about the mess he finds himself in, yet again, with a presidential musing that maybe what we need in our nation these days is retribution against television programs that make fun of him.
This is self-evidently deranged. The man can blurt out casual demands that we "look into" television shows making fun of him, suggesting "retaliation" is in order, as if he has never so much as heard of our Constitution or its protections, much less swore an oath to any of it. Retribution against satirists is the hallmark of the worst and stupidest autocrats. Obsession with self-image at the expense of every other public norm is the reflex of a malignant narcissist.
Apparently jetting off to his own private golf course, yet again, hasn't improved Dear Leader's mood.
And there's the "enemy of the people" language again, not long after one of his avid fans attempted to murder multiple of Donald's chosen "enemies of the people" with handmade pipe bombs. He knows full well the danger of such rhetoric; he sincerely does not care.
These two stupid and deranged tweets alone would be enough to begin impeachment proceedings in past presidencies. The complete dismissal of any constitutional oath; the use of the highest office in the land for continued calls for "retribution" against his "enemies"; set aside the tax fraud, the compulsive lying, the "emergencies" aimed at impressing a handful of television hosts, the campaign finance crimes and the ongoing indictments and this, of itself, is evidence enough he cannot perform his constitutional duties. He is either too unbalanced, too stupid, or too malevolent to muster it.
At present, his "Pinned Tweet" is a fan-made video of Democrats not applauding sufficiently during the State of the Union, set to (stolen) patriotic music. No, seriously. That is what the President of the United States feels is the most pressing message he has to share with the nation. More important than any national emergency; more important than any new bill or government action.
If we manage to survive this idiocy, as a nation, what possible apology could Trump's current defenders offer up for their efforts to prop him up no matter how many democratic norms he attempts to erase, or how many billions he pisses away in his vanity and stupidity? House and Senate Republicans should be tattooed bright-orange, in honor of the man. Even after he is gone, they should never again be allowed to claim back whatever supposed principles they so eagerly tossed aside, in order to suck up to this ranting, raving hate-pumpkin.
