Church building to be converted into Harriet Tubman museum

CAPE MAY, N.J. (AP) - Officials have announced plans to convert a New Jersey church building into a Harriet Tubman museum.

The Press of Atlantic City reports developers signed an agreement with the Macedonia Baptist Church in Cape May Sunday to renovate the church’s old parsonage and turn it into a museum honoring the abolitionist.

Developer Robert Mullock says Tubman spent time in Cape May during the 1850s.

Church trustee chairperson Lynda Towns says they hope for the project to be complete by 2020 when federal officials plan to release the new $20 bill featuring Tubman’s face on the front.

The museum will be dedicated to the church’s longtime pastor the Rev. Robert Davis, who died in 2015.
