Yesterday, Donald Trump casually mentioned that current chief of staff John Kelly was oh-by-the-way leaving the White House in the next few weeks; Trump and Kelly have had a falling-out of late over Donald Trump being an idiot and John Kelly not being fully able to cover the extent to which Donald Trump is an idiot. Also, Jarad and Ivanka apparently don't like him.
As of this morning, it looked like the frontrunner to replace Kelly would be Mike Pence's own chief of staff, Nick Ayers. Nope. Ayers shot that down today: He's getting out while the getting is good.
According to the New York Times, Ayers was willing to take on the job as a temporary position but Trump wants someone who will stay in the position for the remainder of his 4-year term. (The Trump administration being widely known for, of course, their unwillingness to churn through staff.) So no deal; President Crimes will have to find someone else.
