BOSTON (AP) - Rhode Island’s top tourism official has been named the new head of the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The organization’s board on Friday selected Martha Sheridan as its new CEO. She succeeds Pat Moscaritolo, who retires in February 2019.

Sheridan has overseen the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau since 2006.

In a statement, she says she’s looking forward to promoting Boston, “a cosmopolitan hub full of iconic landmarks and attractions, diverse neighborhoods, vibrant culture, prestigious universities, and of course feverish sports fandom.”

The Boston Globe reports that Sheridan will take over a tourism bureau with a staff of more than 40 people and a $13 million-plus annual budget.
