BEND, Ore. (AP) - A central Oregon ski lodge that’s being restored to its original 1940s design was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The Bulletin reports Santiam Pass Ski Lodge west of Sisters recently received the historic designation after the U.S. Forest Service had nominated it for the registry last year.
Salem residents Dwight and Susan Sheets were issued a five-year permit in May to renovate the dilapidated lodge across from the Hoodoo Ski Area in the Willamette National Forest.
They say the historic designation should help in securing grant funding for the project, which is estimated to cost up to $3 million.
The historic preservation group Restore Oregon had placed the lodge last week on its 2019 list of most endangered places in the state.
