Advocates for a former Girl Scout camp dotted with waterfalls and wetlands no longer have to fear outside development on the land now that it has been transferred to the National Park Service.
The mostly wooded area spanning more than 1,000 acres along Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains plays host to raptors, songbirds, streams and other flora and fauna. It was acquired by the Conservation Fund in 2017 and this week was given to the National Park Service. It will be incorporated into the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
The camp belonged to the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania until the group decided to consolidate its operation in 2012. Its transfer to the National Park Service comes after five years of deliberations.
