President Trump was able to win over some plaudits for his speech Monday on the Afghanistan War. But one right-wing website refused to adorn him with praise. Breitbart was highly critical of Trump's speech, arguing the president's base was "the biggest loser" Monday night.

"President Trump’s 'America First' base was the biggest loser of Trump’s speech on Afghanistan Monday night," Breitbart's Adam Shaw wrote for the website's recap.

The article was quick to note that Trump's speech marked the first since Steve Bannon departed the White House. Bannon immediately returned to his role at Breitbart after he was ousted.

Shaw wrote that Trump's speech "confirmed the fears of many on the right that without a strong nationalist voice in the West Wing, the President would revert to the same old fare that Americans had voted to reject in November."

In terms of the policy implications of the speech, Shaw pointed out the the president had "flip-flopped" on the Afghanistan issue.

Other right-wing news outlets, such as Fox News, were generally satisfied with Trump's remarks. Breitbart observed that Fox News "has traditionally been supportive of military escapades."

Shaw highlighted conservative commentator Ann Coulter's reaction to the speech, who was downright dismayed with Trump's abrupt foreign policy change.

Since Bannon left the White House, Bannon has indicated he will go scorched-earth on his enemies, which could include the so-called "globalists" in the Trump administration.

"I feel jacked up. Now I'm free," Bannon told The Weekly Standard in an interview. "I've got my hands back on my weapons. Someone  said, "it's Bannon the Barbarian.' I am definitely going to crush the opposition."

Trump may be getting a first taste of what it is like with Breitbart as an adversary rather than a friend.
