Thousands of people have thus been subjected to not only racist verbal attacks, but physical attacks as well. But these attacks go beyond interactions with strangers: Students across the U.S. have been subject to xenophobia from not only peers, but teachers, as well. In one incident, a video surfaced from a high school in California in which a teacher is using slant eyes, a racist stereotypical gesture, to demonstrate what she says Chinese and Japanese people look like. “If your eyes go up, you’re Chinese,” the Grant High School teacher identified as Nicole Burkett said in a Zoom video obtained by The Sacramento Bee. “If they go down, they’re Japanese.
