Tuesday was shaping up to be a spectacular day for space, with four major launches on the pad. But then Blue Origin reported some issues with their ground infrastructure and called off their efforts for the morning. Minutes later, SpaceX had a warning on fuel temperatures aboard the Falcon 9, and attempts to deal with it pushed them out of their brief launch window. Then high winds down in French Guiana caused Arianespace to shut down their Soyuz launch. And then weather issues also contributed to ULA calling off the Delta IV launch at Vandenberg. So, the day that was going to have four big rocket launches, turned into a perfect record of no-goes. Scrub Tuesday. But today we’re going to try it again. Blue Origin has shifted their flight to Friday, but India has their GSLV slated to do just what the name says—carry a satellite to geosynchronous orbit. So it’s going to be a four rocket day! For real. Fingers crossed. In fact, India already got their bird up, leaving the pad at 5:40 ET and successfully lofting a communication satellite. So … that’s one! Already the record is better than yesterday. SpaceX has the next slot, with a window that opens at 9:07 ET. Then Arianespace will give it another try at 11:37 ET. And the big Delta IV-Heavy will add its fire to the West Coast sunset when it heads up at 8:44 ET, or 5:44 local time. So sure. Maybe that popcorn from yesterday is a bit stale but … Hey, this is rocket science. Going to space is still hard, even if we are doing it a lot.
