Mitch McConnell is either certain that Russian interference will save Republicans' bacon on November 6, or he is in a total panic about getting the rabid Republican base out to vote. He's promising that if they just win enough seats this election, Affordable Care Act repeal will be back on the menu. The failure to do it last year, he says, is «the one disappointment of this Congress from a Republican point of view.» He promises more efforts to repeal with law if there are enough Republican Senate seats. «If we had the votes to completely start over, we’d do it. But that depends on what happens in a couple weeks. ... We’re not satisfied with the way Obamacare is working.» Between this and Tuesday's threats to cut Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, McConnell is really on a roll to get all those voters Republicans need out in November—those who respond slavishly to the word «repeal» and those who have the same knee-jerk reaction to the word «deficit.» And either aren't smart enough to see the threat posed by these promises, or are privileged enough to be insulated from it. That McConnell is resorting to the «repeal» card is further evidence that the Kavanaugh bounce Republicans got after Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination has been short-lived, and is already falling. It's also evidence that he believes the House is gone already, since every vulnerable House Republican is desperately running away from their Obamacare votes. He's trying to hold on to the Senate. Period. But hey, thanks Mitch! What more motivation do voters need to vote for Democrats in this election when their health care is their primary concern!?
