Fashion label Prabal Gurung recently launched its flagship store at 367 Bleecker, in the heart of the New York City.“We are thrilled to share that we have officially opened our first store at 367 Bleecker as part of the Love bleecker collective, in partnership with Skylight and Brookfield. Opening a store has always been a dream of mine and, and to see it finally come true fruition on such a historic block, one that inspired ‘American Dream’ really is a moment of pride and gratitude. I welcome you all to the Prabal Gurung World. Come visit us at 367 Bleecker,” said the designer on a social media platform. The fashion designer was not yet done basking in the successful launch of the Spring 2018 ready-to-wear that this new development brought the spotlight back on the label. Gurung has been a traveler who has hopped countries quite early in his life. Traveling has left its indelible mark on Gurung, who draws inspiration from the various cultures and creeds that he encountered during the journey of life.“This story begins with a nomadic voyage. A voyage most inspired by my recent travels from indigenous villages of Nepal to the urban streets of Tokyo, London, Mumbai, Paris, Shanghai, Abu Dhabi, and New York. Today, I invite you to experience my cross-cultural journey, one that sees no borders, tied together through our ability to use color as a universal language,” says Gurung as per the label’s website.According to the website, he further says that “growing up in Nepal, I would often encounter and interact with the Rana tharus, a subset of the tharu tribe, a spirited group found in the Southern foothills of my homeland. A matriarchal culture, the rana tharus foster a beautiful, giving community, building their entire livelihood with a strong-willed disposition and their very own hands. With grace and loyalty toward their sacred bonds, the tharu women are resourceful artists with respect for their land. Though peaceful in nature, the tharus foster a strong visual identity by honoring the traditionally vibrant attire, which in turn creates a quiet resistance and ever-powerful stance.”“We celebrate this craftsmanship, joining with modern female artisans in Nepal to hand embroidered organic cotton and hand dipped tie-dye cashmere knits. The ease of cargo, jersey, and denim is met. With feather embroidery and hand-pleated chiffon, providing our Modern muse with a myriad of choices that celebrate her femininity!” says the website.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the store and the collection.http://www.blouinartinfo.com Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
