Campaign Action Brett Kavanaugh, taking a page from the pussy-grabber in chief, is doubling down and refusing to withdraw his nomination. Taking his talking points from Senate Republicans—and in the process dismissing any lingering questions that anyone might have about his commitment to blind justice, he calls the allegations against him a partisan smear. Then goes on to insist «a federal judge must be independent, not swayed by public or political pressure.» And that «that is the kind of judge I will always be.» Pure and utter horseshit. «These are smears, pure and simple,» he writes to Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Pure and utter horseshit, as his testimony and repeated perjuries before that committee three weeks ago attest. He even lies about that in this letter, saying «I sat before the Senate Judiciary Committee for more than 31 hours and answered questions under oath.» He didn't even answer what he thought about Trump's desire to authorize torture that is «worse than waterboarding.» The whinefest that is this letter is simply nauseating. The allegations, he says «are a threat to any man or woman who wishes to serve our country.» It's «grotesque and obvious character assassination.» He will «not be intimidated» by the «coordinated effort to destroy my good name,» nor will the «vile threats of violence against my family.» Then he actually writes that he has «devoted my career to serving the public and the cause of justice, and particularly to promoting the equality and dignity of women.» If this were all true, if Kavanaugh really wanted to prove his sterling character, he would do the one thing that would prove it. He'd ask for an independent investigation from the FBI. Period. Read more
