Dr. Christine Blasey Ford sent a letter to Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, to explain how and why she decided to come forward with her accusation that Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted when she was 15 years old (and Kavanaugh was 17 years old). In the letter dated September 22, 2018 (seen below), Ford says she first came forward when she learned that Brett Kavanaugh was on a short list of people being considered to replace retiring Justice Kennedy and that she wanted to avoid public embarrassment for everyone involved by coming forward before he was even named as the nominee.
