Urban centers are Democratic. Rural areas are Republican. The battleground? Suburbs, where two years ago, white college-educated suburban women turned on Republicans with a fury, giving Democrats 38 of their 41 House pickups. And why did those women turn on Donald Trump, after voting for him in 2016? Yes, the environment and health care loom large. But in the end, it’s the fact that Trump is a bully, and his party is totally okay with it.
At Tuesday’s debate, Joe Biden accused President Donald Trump of trying to reopen the economy too soon amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Trump said the shutdowns are “almost like being in prison,” saying the Americans want them to end. Read Full Article at RT.com
«You and Me Both» shows the competent leader that Americans could have had if 2016 had gone differently
The unfortunate fundamental nature of a debate that includes Donald Trump is that Donald Trump has to be allowed to speak for at least part of it. Chris Wallace, not known as the most impartial reporter, finally had to chastise Trump for continuously interrupting the proceedings. This led to Wallace asking about George Floyd and racial justice in a large umbrella sense. Biden began by talking about America’s unfinished work in regards to race and justice. He pointed out that America has never “walked away” from the problem of race and racial injustice the way that Donald Trump has. Trump then began interrupting because he cannot stop himself. Biden let the windbag run out of some air and then continued with one of the most presidential, and frankly calming moments of the debate, with a quiet Trump.
Donald Trump talking about the climate crisis given his destruction of regulations, proposals, and programs designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and thus reduce the impacts of global warming, is like listening to Kim Jong-Un talking about democracy. In debate, Trump blames California wildfires are a product of the failure of the state to clean out the underbrush. And claims this doesn’t happen in Europe. He knows this, he says, because he has talked to European mayors and other officials. That is malarkey. Here’s Euronews in 2019: Nearly 1,400 fires have hit Europe so far this year compared to an annual average of 174 in the same period over the past ten years, data from the Copernicus programme has shown. This has resulted in a near five-fold increase in burnt areas. According to Copernicus' European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), blazes have so far this year burnt 207,440 hectares. In the decade from 2008-2018, an average of 44,491 hectares had burnt by June 25 every year. I have no idea how many lies this brings the total to for this debate, much less his record since lying the oath of office in January 2017.
Well, that was an unholy mess. Donald Trump came in planning to do nothing but try to drag Joe Biden down to his level and turn everyone watching off of voting at all, and he worked harder at it than he’s probably worked at anything in the last four years. Moderator Chris Wallace fought to get Trump under control, but couldn’t succeed for more than about two minutes at a time in the face of Trump’s relentless barrage of lies, insults, and petulance. At times the debate devolved into Trump arguing with Wallace, the moderator, with Wallace looking and sounding very irritated at times. Since Wallace is a Fox News host, it's an interesting question how that will have come off for Trump’s base, which presumably couldn’t reflexively dismiss Wallace as hostile fake news.

On France’s northern shores lies the port city of Calais, a municipality that once was a destination for lace manufacturers. To escape economic and social difficulties, English textile artists and engineers immigrated in the late 19th Century, often establishing clandestine operations that defied patent laws by bringing specialty machines and practices to the region. Soon after, Calais became an industrial hub for lace manufacturing, employing around 40,000 residents. A new mural by Warsaw-based artist Nespoon (previously) celebrates that rich history through an oversized textile that envelops the facade of a historic factory. More
