With a history that dates back over 280 years, Jaquet Droz is one of the pioneers of the Swiss watchmaking industry. Formed in 1738 by Pierre Jaquet-Droz, the company has a long and rich tradition of featuring automaton in its timepieces. In pieces such as the “Lady 8 Flower” and the “Lady 8 Petite,” the automaton is a flower, which blooms when a button is pressed. Another automaton created by the company comes in the form of a bird which is featured in the “Charming Bird” watch that netted an award at the Grand Prix d’horlogerie de Geneve in 2015.A recent addition in the range of timepieces offered by the company also featured an automaton. In this case, it is a butterfly, which moves its wings as it draws a chariot with spinning wheels across the dial. The “Loving Butterfly Automaton,” is being offered in three versions by the company, one of which has an opal dial. Two other versions of the limited edition timepiece have dials made from aventurine and meteorite.Nature is captured in each timepiece in all its glory and recreated intricately by hand with the aid of red gold, white gold, multi-hued opal, and diamonds, which have been studded into one of the dials. The current editions of the “Loving Butterfly Automaton” focus attention on the “Art of Astonishment” that the company’s founder was famous for pioneering.Click on the slideshow to check the timepiece.http://www.blouinartinfo.comFounder: Louise Blouin Read more
