Shocking news: Elizabeth Warren used to work in her chosen profession, and got paid well for it
Wow, big scoop there, Washington Post. Brace yourself for this one: Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who is running for president, worked in her profession as a lawyer before running for public office, and made money for that work.
She did it while also teaching, the headline sneers, working on «more than 50 legal matters, charging as much as $675 an hour.» Where did they get this massive scoop about a smart woman with a good job who used her expertise and her smarts and effectiveness to get paid the going rate for a really good lawyer? «Warren's presidential campaign released a list of 56 cases on her website on Wednesday night.»
Pretty sneaky of her, huh, disclosing all this lawyering and money making for the world to see on her own campaign website. And can you believe what she said on that website: «When she represented the interests of asbestos claimants, her work was described as advocating for victims.» Which seems . . . like a very good description for representing the interest of claimants? Scoop: presidential candidate correctly describes her work in a previous job in a way that will appeal to voters.
Apparently, there's now a new standard for women running for president from the traditional media. A lady law professor interested in advocating for workers is supposed to be like a nun, and take a vow of poverty or something. No matter how good she is at her job.
What Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says:
BREAKING NEWS: Lady Had A Job, Got Paid More Than Me
Nice work. Now do the amount of Wall Street, Big Pharma, & Fossil Fuel 💰 presidential candidates accepted over their careers & how much they’re taking now."
