The film is the latest offering from director Michel Ocelot who has a string of animated films to his name including the “The Legend of the Poor Hunchback.” In the film “Dilili,” a young girl of Kanak lineage takes up the job of investigator when a spate of kidnappings hit the La Belle Epoque period. On her journey as an amateur private detective Dilili comes across a number of interesting characters, including Emma Calve, the French soprano who was a dominant figure of the age and particularly opera. The voice for Calve was provided by Natalie Dessay the opera singer and the character in the animated film plays the role of a “fairy godmother” to Dilili.
