Polls closed an hour ago in Vermont, and they have just closed in Connecticut, as well. A lot of great races to cover already, and we still have the Midwest (Minnesota, South Dakota runoffs, and Wisconsin) on deck in an hour. Buckle up—this one could provide some surprises! Wednesday, Aug 15, 2018 · 12:09:37 AM +00:00 · Steve Singiser VT-Gov (R): The only race worth watching in this early shift is the GOP primary for Governor, where incumbent Gov. Phil Scott has a modest lead (59-41) over Some Dude Keith Stern. There had been rumblings that conservatives were a little ticked with the incumbent over his support for a gun control bill, and while it has drawn an ounce of flesh, it appears far from fatal thus far. Wednesday, Aug 15, 2018 · 12:13:05 AM +00:00 · Steve Singiser VT-Gov (D): On the Democratic side, Christine Hallquist is trying to make history as the first transgender statewide nominee of a major party. Thus far, she is well on her way. With 10% of precincts chiming in, she has 44 percent of the vote, well ahead of Brenda Siegel at 25 percent. Wednesday, Aug 15, 2018 · 12:32:46 AM +00:00 · Steve Singiser Vermont: For those looking at the New York Times results page for Vermont, that is not a computer glitch. A Republican named Brooke Paige is running for every office except for Governor. He is actually leading the primary for the U.S. House, and is unopposed for all of the downballot statewide offices except for Lt. Governor. Wednesday, Aug 15, 2018 · 12:34:20 AM +00:00 · Steve Singiser CT-Gov (D): The Associated Press has called the Democratic primary for Governor for Ned Lamont. With 10% of precincts in, Lamont had a very healthy 85-15 lead over Bridgeport Mayor Joseph Ganim. Wednesday, Aug 15, 2018 · 12:36:07 AM +00:00 · Steve Singiser CT-Gov (R): On the GOP side of the gubernatorial ledger, the picture is a little murkier. With 12% of precincts reporting, uber-wealthy financial executive Bob Stefanoski leads a crowded field with 31 percent of the vote. The other four contending Republicans are all in the teens, with Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton the closest to the frontrunner at 19 percent. Wednesday, Aug 15, 2018 · 12:37:21 AM +00:00 · Steve Singiser KS-Gov (R): We interrupt this week’s primary to bring you key information from last week’s primary: xBREAKING: Jeff Colyer concedes to Kris Kobach in Kansas Republican governorâÂÂs race #ksleg— Jonathan Shorman (@jonshorman) August 15, 2018 Wednesday, Aug 15, 2018 · 12:43:23 AM +00:00 · Steve Singiser CT-05 (D/R): In this comparably rare Democratic-held open seat, the picture is a little clearer on the Democratic side than the Republican side. On the Democratic side, teacher Jahana Hayes has a healthy 66-34 over attorney Mary Glassman. On the Republican side, former Meriden Mayor Manny Santos leads by a comparably modest 44-33 margin over former professor Ruby Corby-O’Neill.
