Abbreviated Pundit Round-up: Waiting for the Mueller report to drop

Edward Isaac-Dovere/Atlantic: Bernie Sanders Just Hired His Twitter Attack Dog David Sirota had been working unofficially for Sanders while savaging the other Democratic candidates on Twitter Sirota’s hiring as a senior adviser and speechwriter was announced by the Sanders campaign on Tuesday morning after The Atlantic contacted the campaign and inquired about the undisclosed role Sirota held while attacking other Democrats. ... When people have questioned his tactics, Sirota has called them “mentally incapacitated.” Responding in mid-January to those who criticized him online for preemptively railing against the record of O’Rourke, who had not yet entered the race but had been a huge source of concern for Sanders allies since talk of O’Rourke’s potential presidential run picked up last year, Sirota tweeted, “The screaming temper tantrums by Democratic Party operatives whenever reporters scrutinize a lawmaker’s voting record is something to behold. These people quite literally hate democracy.” At another point, he said his critics “are deranged and/or running a deliberate disinfo campaign.” “Positively unhinged,” he wrote about them a separate time. Lest you think the above is a hit piece on Bernie, it’s not. It’s questioning Sirota’s honesty (read the piece). And it’s the talk of twitter.  Well, other than Devin Nunes’ cow and George Conway. xDevin Nunes' lawsuit is already having a big impact — @DevinCow went from 1,000 to 115,000 followers, @sarahdwirereports. https://t.co/iJ5mUBYxH8— Chris Megerian (@ChrisMegerian) March 19, 2019

Trump poses a terror danger. The press needs to say so

Donald Trump’s disgraceful response to the New Zealand mosque massacre, in which he downplayed the mounting threat posed by white global terrorists and spent the weekend legitimizing dangerous voices on the radical-right fringe, once again confirmed that he poses a threat to U.S. security. It also proved that the press is still treating terrorism all wrong in this country. Trump and the GOP want Americans to think only Muslim terrorists pose a threat, not white men with guns committed to an eliminationist agenda. And the media plays along. Much of the press remains wedded to its previous, 9/11-era approach to terrorism coverage, where jihadists essentially defined terrorism in this country. As I noted last month, news that a black TV actor had been charged with faking the claim that he was the victim of a hate crime received five times more coverage than did the shocking news that a white nationalist lieutenant in the U.S. military had planned an assassination spree in order to spark a civil war and establish a «white homeland» in America. In fact, today a terrorist who isn't Muslim would have to kill seven more people to receive the same amount of news coverage as a Muslim gunman would, according to University of Alabama researcher Erin Kearns. That’s the 9/11 media legacy. But that deadly attack was 18 years ago, and the terror threats facing this country have completely changed. So, too, should the press coverage—and that should start with Trump and the danger he poses.   Do I mean Trump himself will undertake some terror plot? Of course not. But he does pose a terror threat in the very real sense that he uses one of the largest and loudest platforms in the world—the United States presidency—to advance and embrace white nationalism and to send an unmistakable message that he supports its mission, while doing his best to dismiss the rising death toll that surrounds it.

Former House Speaker Paul Ryan lands a top-tier media gig: He's now on the Fox board of directors

When House Speaker Paul Ryan announced that he would be leaving Congress, before the 2018 elections, it was never quite clear just why the tremendously powerful Republican pseudo-wonk had decided to give up the job. Was he simply tired of politics? Did he consider his job done after pushing through a gargantuan deficit-busting tax cut for wealthy Americans, long considered one of his highest priorities? Did he foresee a Republican plastering at the polls and decide he had no interest in being on the losing end of that power struggle? Did he plan to resurface as a lobbyist? Ryan kept quiet the whole time, but as of today we know he at least won't be going hungry (which is good, considering the steps he's taken to reduce food aid for impoverished families). The former congressman has quite the prominent gig set up: He is joining the board of directors of the Fox Corporation. The former speaker of the House will be guiding the parent company of Fox News as the Republican Party and Fox continue to merge into a single conspiracy-and-tirade theme park of grievances. The Ryan appointment is the most noteworthy, given his history near the top of Republican politics. Ryan and Rupert Murdoch have been friendly for many years. In 2014, he named Ryan as a presidential contender he had «particular admiration for.» The Fox Corporation is the end result of the Fox split that saw the vast majority of Fox entertainment assets sold off to Disney; the Fox News Channel and Fox Broadcast Network remain behind, a trimmed-down operation that will continue to be controlled by the Murdoch family. As a board member, Paul Ryan will presumably have at least some input into any change of direction the news network contemplates, whether that change is to more aggressively court the white nationalists served by Tucker Carlson, to push «straight» news anchors into more vigorous defenses of the president, or take your pick. He will be paid handsomely in this role. For starters, we suspect that the «new» Fox News won't be taking any public stands on the revolving door that sees powerful elected officials land high-paying broadcasting jobs between stints on the public payroll. Call it a hunch.

Trump loves to kick people when they're down—like six feet down

Over the weekend, Donald Trump resumed his attacks on deceased Sen. John McCain. But it’s not as if Trump ever quit. From mocking McCain’s time as a prisoner of war, to claiming he was last in his class at Annapolis (he wasn’t), Trump just cannot stop taking digs at McCain. And when McCain’s daughter dared to defend her fallen father, Trump took a slap at her as well.  Because Donald Trump never lets a perceived slight go without striking back, and he never, never ever, forgives. Both in his statements and his actions, Trump has made his personal policy clear: attack those who don’t lavish you with praise, then just keep attacking. That John McCain can’t defend himself from Trump’s attacks doesn’t matter to Trump. In fact, it makes the situation infinitely better. If Trump’s desire to wound everyone who ever failed to bow down at his approach was limited to McCain, that might not represent a great issue. It would still be fundamentally repulsive, but it wouldn’t make a great impact on the nation. But McCain is not a one-off.  The way Trump behaves toward McCain is the way he behaves toward anyone who he ever believed was less than obsequious in his presence. That means that European allies are suffering and NATO is weakened, not just because Trump has, at the very least, a fondness for Vladimir Putin, but because some of those leaders dared actually try to explain to Trump the political realities of their situation and the function of strategic defense. For daring to speak the truth, Trump insults them, demeans their nations, demands payment, and burns the bridges of alliances stretching back 70 years or more. And Trump has not forgotten that he was the butt of jokes at the 2011 White House Correspondents Dinner. What most people would have taking as gentle joshing, Trump took as a mortal insult. It may not have been the origin of his desire to slash and burn his way through everything ever touched by President Barack Obama, but it certainly made those flames a thousand times hotter. On everything from health care to the environment, Trump’s policies have been cemented around not just the idea of pleasing his ‘investors,’ but burning to the ground everything that came from those he regards as enemies.

Porsche Lays the Foundation Yet Again, in Leipzig

Porsche’s fifth expansion project in Leipzig is now underway. Porsche is investing more than 600 million euros to expand its factory in Leipzig, which will allow the company to set an important course for the future of its site in Saxony and the production of future models, stated an official release.“The comprehensive expansion project was launched, in the presence of the Minister President of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer; the Lord Mayor of Leipzig, Burkhard Jung; Albrecht Reimold, Member of the Executive Board for Production and Logistics at Porsche AG; and Gerd Rupp, Chairman of the Executive Board at Porsche Leipzig GmbH. As part of the celebrations, the foundation stone was laid for a new body shop with a total area of 75,500 square metres. The vehicle bodies for the next generation of the Macan – which will be a fully electric series – will be manufactured here from the beginning of the next decade,” says the release.Albrecht Reimold, the board member responsible for production, was quoted as saying in the release, “Porsche decided to establish a site in Leipzig in 1999.” He added, “Since the initial ground-breaking ceremony in February 2000, we have invested more than 1.3 billion euros to develop the plant. We’ve never regretted the decision we made in 1999 to set up a factory in Leipzig. And this is why we are preparing the factory ready for the future. We are considerably enhancing our site in Saxony and making sure that it is in the best possible position to handle future mobility concepts and customer expectations.”“The decision to manufacture the next generation of the Macan in Leipzig is a vote of confidence in the employees who work at the site.” said Gerd Rupp, Chairman of the Executive Board at Porsche Leipzig GmbH. “The factory expansion also allows Porsche to actively shape the development of electromobility in the state of Saxony. Porsche will therefore remain a forward-thinking driver of economic growth in the region.”Porsche Leipzig GmbH can look back on a successful history: The factory was opened in 2002. Back in 2011, the factory in Leipzig was expanded to include a dedicated body shop and paint shop to accommodate production of the Macan. The last two years have also seen end-to-end production of the Panamera series in Leipzig. Porsche Leipzig GmbH manufactures the Porsche Panamera and Macan series, as well as bodies for Bentley, as per the release.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at Porsche-factory  https://www.blouinartinfo.com/              Founder: Louise Blouin

eBay UK Shares Inaugural “Women at Work” Report

eBay for Charity recently partnered with women's charity Dress for Success who help empower women to achieve economic independence. Indeed, to mark the partnership, the online marketplace has created the first ever “Women at Work” report which gives insight into how today's women find empowerment and balance in their careers, whether that's dressing for success or seeking solidarity with female colleagues, stated an official release.“When it comes to 2019, the report has found that women would rather rock their yoga pants to feel empowered at work than fashion themselves on style icon, Meghan Markle and mum's the word when it comes to personal and professional advice.  And with eBay.co.uk powered by thousands of female owned SMBs, the site is pleased to further support women as they work toward success and economic parity,” says the release. The other interesting findings shared in the report are:·        The office sisterhood is replacing the old boys club, as almost half of women (48%) think it is important to have another female at work they can talk to about tricky situations and 45% of women believe that a solid support group of women at work is important.·        When it comes to inspiration at work, it is their colleagues that women look up to most, but interestingly nearly a fifth of those surveyed said they would look to Michelle Obama for inspiration when it comes to life values (16%).·        Mums also feature high up on the list, with more than half (53%) of 16-24 year olds seeking personal advice from 'Ma', and a quarter (26%) of the same group would look to her for career advice too!Women can look and think beyond Stilettos, according to the report:·        More than a third (40%) of women feel most confident in jeans and a t-shirt, even more than a little black dress (32%) or work clothes (32%) and one in ten feel most confident in yoga gear. Proving that when it comes to the 2019 power suit, casual is queen.·        And not surprisingly, more than half of women (77%) aged 16-24 are bucking the traditional workplace dress code and would choose casual attire to feel most confident. As Gen Z begin to climb the career ladder, they prove that a woman's armour for success doesn't need to be suits and stilettos.·        With millennial and Gen Z women opting for a more casual work look it's not surprising that just one in seven women (14%) look to emulate Meghan Markle's classic look.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the preferred work-wear styles for women, as per the report   https://www.blouinartinfo.com/              Founder: Louise Blouin
