Here’s a measure of how hard women have been hit by the pandemic jobs crisis: CBS News reports that the number of women delivering for UberEats more than doubled since April 2020. In a July survey, more than a quarter of the women driving for UberEats told the company they were doing so because they had lost jobs or hours, while just 15% of men said the same thing. Lyft similarly told CBS News that women were more likely to work for them directly because of income loss. This is far from the only indicator of the unequal impact of the COVID-19 economy, but it almost feels like some of the other indicators are starting to blur because we’ve heard them so much.
