Karl Lagerfeld was an institution in himself. He gave the world a fashion forward push and had designed many iconic clothes for many influential people. His designs sold like hot cakes but were there any takers for his own personal style, which was impeccable?Lagerfeld was quoted as saying that he hated fashion designers who did not dress up properly while they themselves sold fashion. He condemned the act. This is also one of the reasons why he paid so much attention to dressing up, and it was difficult to find one flaw in his dressing sense. He himself was quite a style icon. Though he had some kind of fetish for monochrome suits, he often played with the elements that he could.Lagerfeld believed that he was a caricature of himself, and his signature style was actually a mask. He described his standard old fashioned suited look to be like that of an aristocrat from 18th century. He loved his crisped high collared shirt which was always white, with occasional stripes and prints on it. He liked his matching wide ties and also wore Dior jackets with tails. He only wore Hilditch & Key shirts. It was always clubbed with black jeans and jackets. The tie was always in place, so were the shades along with the fingerless gloves by Causse. Crisp shirt, high collars, and bow tie were his favourites since his childhood. He wore Massaro crocodile boots in black. Unlike most men from his generations, Lagerfeld preferred to accessories his look with ornamental brooches and bespoke rings like that of Henry VIII.His ring designs were sometimes chunky silver Chrome Hearts, while on other times they were exquisite vintage Gothic rings and also Art Deco designed rings from Paris jeweller, Lydia Courteille. His powdered ponytail made him stand out. He carried the same hairstyle since the late seventies. Reportedly, he whitened them with clouds of Klorane dry shampoo.Lagerfeld who was often seen to be blunt and forthright in his comments, and did not even spare himself when it came to mockery. He had stated in an interview that his personal style had originated from his shortcomings. He had been quoted as calling his natural hair, “a bit pee pee yellow.” As per him, his sunglasses were his “burka.”He did not like men showing off hairy legs wearing short socks and vouched for gloves that had arm-lengthening appeal in them.He preferred designers like Haider Ackermann and Sacai, and mostly wore their creations; but occasionally, he went in for a gold Dior baseball jacket or a duffel coat as well.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at Karl Lagerfeld’s flawless style https://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
