“Jean Prouve, l’ame du metal,” featuring furniture and architectural elements by Jean Prouve from Laurence and Patrick Seguin’s private collection is on view at Chateau La Coste, through March 5, 2019. “Since the opening of their gallery in 1989, Laurence and Patrick Seguin have carried out promotional work aimed at rediscovering the oeuvre of Jean Prouve (1901-1984), firstly through his furniture designs, then later through exhibiting particular examples of his architecture such as the prefabricated houses (6x6 and 6x9 Demountable houses, Ferembal house, Metropole house, Les Jours Meilleurs house, Bouqueval School, Villejuif Temporary School). During these thirty years, a large number of exhibitions in international galleries, museums and institutions together with the regular publication of books by the gallery have allowed Galerie Patrick Seguin to reveal the exceptional nature of Jean Prouve’s creations. Recognized today as one of the central figures in the history of 20th century architecture and design, his work is included in many of the largest museums of the world and the most prestigious private collections,” states the press release for the exhibition. Laurence and Patrick Seguin have also created a unique collection of furniture and architecture by Jean Prouve and the ongoing exhibition has presented sixty of these pieces designed by Renzo Piano. Some of the designs include, a table from Africa from 1952, a Centrale table, Antony from 1954, a Presidence desk made in 1955, a lighted ramp from Le Mans from 1954, a panel from the Federation du Batiment built in 1949 and a sliding door from the Pavillon du Centenaire de l’Aluminum from 1954, among several other unique pieces. “The Prouve / Rogers house initially installed in the Renzo Piano building will now be integrated into Villa La Coste. Bearing Number 30, this will be presented as a hotel suite, offering guests a unique experience. In 2015, this 6x6 Demountable house realized in 1944 by Jean Prouve for war victims in the French region of Lorraine was adapted by the architecture firm Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners. With respect to the original structure, the architects introduced electricity, hot water, a kitchen, and a bathroom. All these elements are flexible and can be dismantled in the spirit of the original concept. Having re-found its autonomy, the house is now the ideal archetype of a nomad house,” states the gallery. The exhibition is currently on view through March 5, 2019, at Galerie Patrick Seguin, 5 rue des Taillandiers, 75011, Paris For details visit: www.patrickseguin.com http://www.blouinartinfo.com/Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
