The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai — the iconic flagship of The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) and a defining city structure — turns 115 this December. Built in 1903, the hotel that could also be credited as India’s first luxury hospitality address, was a result of Sir Jamsetji N. Tata’s vision to ensure that the city of Bombay has a landmark which could place it amongst the greatest cities of the world, as per an official release.According to the release, Mr. Taljinder Singh — Area Director, Mumbai Hotels and General Manager, The Taj Mahal Palace, said: “For more than a century the Taj dome has anchored the Mumbai skyline and continues to stand tall as an epitome of bespoke luxury. Over the last hundred years, the hotel has made a fascinating journey and become synonymous with the city’s vibrant soul. We are very proud to be part of this milestone year and take forward its all-time legacy of philanthropy and larger social causes.”In spirit of philanthropy that is the cornerstone of the 150 year TATA philosophy, The Taj Mahal Palace is all set to host a Black-Tie Charity Ball on the eve of its anniversary on December 15, 2018. The gala will bring together the who’s who of the city for a charitable evening coupled with jazz, music, and fine food, as per the release.“The highlight of the evening is a live auction consisting of art pieces donated and auctioned by Delhi-based art house, DAG. Complete proceeds of the art auction will be donated to the Taj Public Service Welfare Trust (TPSWT). Founded in the aftermath of the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008, the objective of the Trust is to extend assistance to victims of terror, natural disasters, members of the armed forces and other services who demonstrate bravery in their line of work, and their family,” says the release.On this occasion, The Taj Mahal Palace will also be launching a signature collection of 100 Limited Edition 18-karat gold commemorative timepieces by Nebula. Five of these watches will also be sold as a part of the charity auction. Contribution towards charity continues till December 16, 2018, with each restaurant in the hotel additionally offering sponsored dinner tables that guests can purchase on the anniversary weekend, according to the release.As per the release, The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai began its journey in 1903 as IHCL’s first hotel.
